Pitfalls to Avoid as a Newbie in Internet Marketing - Managing Yourself: Email

Previously I wrote about the need to establish a budget (time and money), and then about the pressure of information overload when starting out in Internet Marketing. Today I will look at the problem of having your life in chaos trying to keep track of all that you are trying to accomplish.

I would like to share with you a number of the techniques I used to help cope with the need to keep a momentum going and also the need to learn and absorb as much of the data that is coming down the pipe to you. I will break these down into separate articles as they apply to different aspects of your business.

The short story is that to be able to cope and not feel as if you are continually playing catch-up, is to be ORGANIZED. Yep, easy, isn't it - NOT! Most of the time, as we go along on our way, there is 'stuff' that we leave to do later - this accumulates and by the end of the week there is a massive pile of emails that still need replying to, articles that still need to be written or posted, the blog is out of date.....yadda, yadda, yadda. When it gets to this point, we feel as though we are overwhelmed and start to be less productive.

Here is the Silver Bullet! (I bet you thought that there were no Silver Bullets left)

STOP EVERYTHING! Yes, stop doing everything and MAKE yourself give over about 4 hours where you will not look at emails, web pages, answer phones etc. These 4 hours will be used to take a good look at how you are doing things and make a plan to get everything on track.

It is not a big deal - quite easy to start in fact. Go to the basic actions you do every day.

* EMAILS - this is probably one of the major time wasters and causes of getting behind - if you don't manage the system right. Firstly, make a rule that you will only read and act on (or download) emails 3 times a day - you figure the times, but restrict yourself to 15 minutes, three times a day. (Don't panic - you will be amazed at how much you will get through in a concentrated 15 minutes, besides you will be doing it 3 times - a whole 45 minutes of email time per day!!)

(Hopefully by now you will have set up your desktop email program to retrieve the emails from your various POP3 mailboxes and deposit them locally - huge time saver - one click and all the mail comes whooshing in!!!)

Next, take some time to setup your email program so that it is semi-automated. The idea here is to create rules for incoming mails so that they do not all get into your primary inbox and cause a huge mess that takes hours to sort through.

An easy way to do this is to identify the emails that you can group - from a specific sender, or a specific topic - whatever. Then set up a rule (check out your email program) that picks up the emails as soon as they come into your inbox and then moves them to the folder you have set up. Also, setup a rule that will delete emails that you would not normally bother with - this takes a bit of time to figure out, but maybe initially just move them into a PENDING folder and then scan it briefly and do a manual mass delete when satisfied there is nothing of importance.

What you are doing here is YOU are deciding what to read when. This way you are able to pop in at your intervals and browse a folder without getting bogged down in 'chaff'. You are already on the way to grabbing back control.

Over the next few articles I will be tackling all of the various time-wasting activities that cause us to slow-down. Please drop a line to my email if there is something specific you feel could be written about.

If I can leave you with one thought for today:
Tidy up your mind as well as your workspace. If everything is where you want it without having to scratch around, you will save minutes that add up to hours every week.

Starting an Online Business All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))

Starting an Online Business All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))

  • Eleven minibooks comprising nearly 800 pages offer would-be online entrepreneurs all the information they need to launch an e-business and succeed in today's marketplace
  • Unlike competing guides, this book explains how to redesign a site, retool marketing strategies, and run a nonprofit site as well as offering in-depth coverage of how to secure a site and move from retail to e-tail
  • Minibooks cover online business basics, legal and accounting matters, Web site design, operational issues once a business is up and running, Internet security, how to boost sales, taking a brick-and-mortar business online, storefront selling at eBay and elsewhere, fundraising at a nonprofit site, running a niche e-business, and advanced e-commerce techniques and strategies

Customer Review: Even experienced sellers will learn something

I have bought and sold stuff online for years and this book still had useful information in it. It gives useful, specific sources for many different categories of eCommerce.

I have paid much more for courses and books from so called marketing experts that didn't have near as much information.

So often you will read or hear that you need to do this or that, but they never tell you the specific places that you can go to get it done.

The many different categories of selling advice would at first make you think that it just glosses over them but once you start to read you see that they are one of the strengths of this book... you just keep finding good advice to tweak and improve your online business.

From web site design and boosting traffic to credit card acceptance to keeping your customers happy or even legal advice for people just starting out, it's hard to name just one part that would be considered the best part of this book. Site security to even the basics of chosing a business name are covered.

It doesn't matter if you are only thinking about starting an online business or if you have various web sites and are an experienced eBay user, there will be something in here that will make you glad you bought it.

Customer Review: Excellent- From Basic info to More Advanced all in One!

This book was a real surprise. I fully expected to use it as a resource for new Ebay/Web commerce users that we help teach but found it excelled not only in the basics but in pretty much the whole plan of where you would want to be online in the long run. I am particulary fond of books that discuss legal and accounting set up and this one covers a lot of good info like type of organization, record keeping, copyrights and trademarks, a tax overview etc. A great foundation for the new online business. There is a lot of information regarding web site design, internet security and boosting your sales. Usually many books would leave off in this area but not this one. It has information on taking your retail business online , selling from a storefront and covers some important ideas like affiliate marketing and finding a niche. Whether deciding to operate on Ebay or with your own website this book is jam packed with information. Even as an experienced online user I found myself making notes from many of the sections in the book including those with suggestions on what to do to expand sales, deal with changes and other customer issues. Just as a note this is one huge book. Over 800 pages including the index and for the price a bargain. For Ebayers I would recommend this book and a general Ebay book as a package to buy. If working directly on your own e-commerce site I would recommend this book with with a web 2.0 or social marketing book.

IT Marketing: Mailing to Your Current Customer Database

Doing a mailing to your current customer database is a really great place to start. In this article, you'll learn why this IT marketing strategy can be so effective.

Your Customers Already Know You

Doing an IT marketing mailing to your current customers is a great place to start because, for one thing, you already own the list. But even more importantly, they already know, like, and trust you. And that's one of the biggest obstacles to overcome when you're doing any kind of direct marketing like this.

IT Marketing: What to pitch?

If you feel comfortable talking with business owners and business managers about providing virus protection, firewalls, passwords, data backup, and power protection, you have a good opportunity to tie in the IT audit concept and data protection.

Offer a heavily discounted IT audit package. Let's say that it's regularly $400, but as a special now through the expiration date, it's $299. You might consider putting an extra bonus in there, like an entry-level battery backup unit, or surge protector, or your prized system inventory worksheet template, or a CD or DVD from the last data protection seminar you gave. As part of your IT marketing strategy, give away something you think will have that little bit of an extra pull.

IT Marketing: Keep track of your results

If you see that you get five percent inquiries and half of those inquiries ultimately end up taking the audit, this gives you a good baseline to measure and compare other lists and the responses you get from similar mailings.

You're going to have a much more receptive audience with your existing customers than anyone else through your IT marketing efforts. If you're doing any kind of outbound telemarketing, even if they're not customers you've done a lot of work for, at least these people know you and they hopefully like you and trust you.

Help Your Customers Utilize What They Already Have

Look to your existing customer relationships to find out additional ways that you can help them better use what they already own. There is an excellent chance that they've bought a lot of things that are collecting dust. If they are using them, they may be only scratching the surface of their usefulness.

IT Marketing: Cementing Relationships

These are not only great opportunities for you to help them get more out of what they already own, it's also a great opportunity for you to pick up a lot of good, incremental service revenue. And it's also a great way for you to cement the long-term loyalty and relationships that are really important for any computer consulting business.

The Bottom Line on IT Marketing

Using your existing clients for IT marketing is a great first step. You can either introduce new products or services or help them better utilize technology they already have.

Intel Copper Core Socket 478 Heat Sink and Fan up to 3.40GHz

Intel Copper Core Socket 478 Heat Sink and Fan up to 3.40GHz
This Intel C91249-002 heat sink and fan will keep your Socket 478 processor running at its optimal best! It features an aluminum heat sink with copper core and a 2.5-inch fan.

Designed for use with all Intel® Pentium® 4 processors and Intel® Celeron® processors in the 478 pin package including 2.8E processors and 3.0 GHz up to 3.40 GHz!

Customer Review: Intel Copper Core Socket 478 Heat Sink and Fan is good, but...

I am a software tech. I got tired of this fans hum, and started looking elsewhere-

1. I tried the ASUS Neptune K7 CPU Fan, & was no good (but quiet/hot)- did not cool as well as the GOOD stock Intel fan!

2. Zalman fans... weren't any better (VERY hard to mount, and don't cool as well as the Intel!).

Bottom line- Live with the low Intel hum (tune it out/don't dwell on it...!), but excellent cooling (read the reviews!)!

Customer Review: Does its thing but very loud

This relatively low profile (for its class) fan/heatsink does what it's supposed to very well on my 2.93ghz Celeron mod machine, but it is loud to the point of distraction. (I can easily hear it 20+ft away & down the hall.) I wish I knew the db specs on it because I would have a great gauge on what to look out for in the future.

If you can live with the noise and are still working with socket 478, it's a very standard & no pain install, and it'll do what you need. Otherwise, it might be best to look elsewhere.

Rated four because I don't have great airflow in my mod machine but this fan/heatsink does its thing anyways. Rated two (I'm being nice actually) for the noise. The final Three rating is an average.

"Contribution of Weblog As A Tool Of Online Marketing"- A Panorama

"A weblog (usually shortened to blog, but occasionally spelled web log) is a web application presented as a webpage consisting of periodic posts, normally in reverse chronological order"- en.wikipedia.org. As you add content to your blog, new posts are automatically positioned on top of previous posts, so your visitors can see "what's new." Then they can comment on it or link to it or e-mail you if they choose to do so. A weblog is edited, organized and published often through a content management system or CMS. The blogs are online diaries or journals where blogger expresses his feelings, creativity, research work with like minded surfers through her periodic articles. Or weblog can be resembled to an online diary where blogger submits his frequently visited links for reference of the visitors.

The history of weblog can be traced back to the first website, http://info.cern.ch/, the site built by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN. In the '90s there were a handful of websites and the life was so easy. But with with the cluttering of thousands of new websites each day, things turned to be complicated and it became harder to find relevant information easily. Some novel eWiz like Brigitte Eaton, Jorn Barger, Peter Merholz, James Garrett,Cameron Barrett produced an alternative way to thread a particular topic related websites in a page or link for more convenience of the surfers to find content oriented sites in a single bucket ! The idea grew popularity, and a number of webmasters each day sent their URLs for listing in their websites. The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger in December 1997. The shorter version, "blog," was coined by Peter Merholz in 1999. As of March 2003, the Oxford English Dictionary included the terms weblog, weblogging and weblogger in their dictionary. Until '98 there were only a handful of weblogs in the net, but according to a report, more than 14 million blogs being published by the first quarter of 2005 !!

The popularity of Weblog is gaining momentum. As per a survey conducted by Comscore.com, 50 Million US population ( i.e- 1 in 6 of total US population or 30% of the total US online population) visited blog sites in the first quarter of 2005. This represents a 45% increase compared to the quarter one of 2004. Blog visitors are 11% more likely than the average Internet user to have incomes of $75,000 or more. According to the study, an average blog visitor spends 23 hours per weak online, while average Internet users spent 13 hours online."The study also found that the blog visitors are 30% more likely to buy products or services online. While less that 40% of the total Internet population made an online purchase at Q1 of 2005, 51% of the blog visitors did"- Comscore.com. This is just a replica of the universal acceptability of weblog these days. If you are an online marketer or thinking to start an online venture, I believe weblog is the best tool of Internet marketing. Do you don't think so??

Like Ezine ads, an Affiliate can use weblog as a futuristic tool of online marketing. With a decent and cool content writting, even a starter categorically can create a big blogsphere and use it as a perpetual passive mean of generating targeted traffic. The advantages of weblog over concurrent websites as a tool of online marketing are astoundingly multifarious.

First, weblogs are SE friendly i.e. you never have to submit your blog to any search engine. After you publish, your blog it will be submitted to the common search engines by the blog service provider. You never have to bother about on page criterions. Your META TAGS and KEY WORDs will be set automatically, eliminating the risk of keyword manipulation.

Second, zero designing and operation cost. You never have to hire a web designer for designing your weblog, just choose the right template and publish.

Third, Ping and Podcasting facilities promoting weblog as a viral marketing tool. With single click you are informing the whole world about your latest article updates.

Fourth, the next advantage of weblog over a web site is the trackback facility, an automatic notification between websites of related content--such as a post on a particular topic or one which responds to a post on another blog . Use Trackback links when you quote or refer to other blog posts.

Fifth, blogs are more likely RSS ( Really Simple Syndication) integrated. All blog service providers, including Blogger.com provide RSS feed link. When you update your new posting in weblog and you use RSS feed, the SE crawlers will visit your site and publish your content to across world wide web, all silently.

Sixth, another great feature of blog is use of comment

Seventh, blog is a more personalized form of ezine. In ezines and websites we express either our knowledge or services, but in blog we can express our live experiences as if we are talking to our best friend. Personalisation of postings increases the Conversion Ratio of traffic to customer.

"Let's be honest here... We're all good at justifying excuses to ourselves. I've even done it a few times myself ! But there really is no excuse for not following your dream. You're only hurting yourself." - Corey Rudl. If you are an ambitious online marketer or if you are new to weblog, I can name a few of the best blogging service providers like Blogger.com, Livejournal.com, 360.Yahoo.com, Typepad.com, Blogs.com, Xanga.com, DiaryLand.com where you should publish your first blog to realize your dreams. Choose the write one and publish your own blog today. For more cross reference, content, RSS Feeding and listing of your blog you can use some of the Blog Directories like- Masternewedia.org, Blogger.com, Blogrankings.com, Blogcatalog.com, Blogsearchengine.com, Blogwise.com, Weblogs.com, Blogrolling.com, FeedBurner.com, EmarketingBlogs.com. Blog advertising related services are provided by-BlogExplosion.com; Prosperall.com, Blogclicker.com. Pluck.com provides free download toolbar which helps to customize your weblog searching. I highly recommend you to give a glance at their site. If you are dummy, please visit Samizdata.net for blog related glossary and content.

It's true -- apply it to her most intimate parts before or during lovemaking, and prepare for unbelievably intense excitement and climaxes beyond all previous boundaries.

Dance Maker Headset and Handheld Microphone

Dance Maker Headset and Handheld Microphone
Your next performance will sound just like the professionals with two microphones for two singers and a speaker module, headset and handheld microphone. A belt clip is provided so you can sing and dance at the same time! Requires 3 "AA" batteries (not included). Measures 2.5"L x 7"W x 7"H.

Customer Review: great fun, if it worked

I purchasd two of these: one for my niece & one for my daughter. Both microphones worked for a day and then made this horrible buzzing noise that was so loud and overpowered their voices. I thought it was just a bumb mic when it happened to my daughter's but then my sister called me and said her daughter's was doing the exact same thing. Both are non-functional and we've changed batteries and tried everything.

Customer Review: Gave out after 2 weeks

Started great, very fun and enjoyed but after about 2 weeks of normal play started to get static instead of voice. Eventually no voice and only static which then turned into no sound by the end of the week. My husband took apart and tried to fix (electrical engineer) but no use.

Chinese Ghost Story II

Chinese Ghost Story II
Customer Review: Really Fun

I first saw this movie in an art house eons ago. I thought it was terrific then. I recently bought it to share with my friends. They need to be prepared that it is not American and to approach it with a sense of humor. They need to be prepped about the symbolism of the ghosts being athletic instead of "magic". This is a fun movie.

Customer Review: 100 years later...

After being disappointed by part 2, I was very happy to see Joey Wong return as a ghost in part 3. I don't know what they were thinking with part 2 but part 3 is the sequel I was looking for. Once again her job as a ghost is to seduce men so that her evil master can eat their spirits.

Tong Leung (from Hard Boiled) plays a Buddhist monk who is on a journey with his master to deliver a golden Buddha. They get attacked by Joey Wong's evil master and Joey Wong tries to save Tony Leung from the demon. Even though Tony is a Buddhist he can't hide his love for the ghost.

Jacky Cheung makes a welcome return after starring in part 2, and he helps Tony Leung retrieve his golden Buddha after it was stolen. Tony Leung's master has been captured by the demon and Tony is supposed to repair the Golden Buddha and then come back to save his master. Instead he gets it stolen and it ends up getting melted into a blob instead of a Buddha. He doesn't know if the Buddha will still have its magical powers but he has to go and save his master. Luckily Jacky Cheung comes along to help him for a very exciting ending.

The relationship between Tony Leung and Joey wong is just as beautiful as the relationship that Joey Wong had with Leslie Cheung. There is a lot more comedy than parts 1 and 2 and also a lot of great one-liners. The biggest difference is that this movie is just completely insane. Tongues go into peoples stomachs, the evil demon is some sort of crazy tree monster, and there are some epic magic battles. Fun doesn't even begin to describe it. This is my favorite movie in the 3 part series.

Is Your Understanding Of Network Marketing Outdated?

I knew things in our industry had changed, but I didn't realize just HOW MUCH they had changed until recently. Now we all know nothing stays the same, and progress is always welcome in Network Marketing, but I don't think many of us are truly aware of the vast differences we've seen technology bring in just the past few years.

Ten years ago--even five years ago--a successful couple or individual working in Networking limited themselves to a single program. Why? Because working direct sales or MLM took a TON of work.

Mike and Rita were about the best Networking team around a few years ago. They held weekly meetings at the public library and held even more meetings at their home. If you made any contact whatsoever with Mike and Rita, they would keep your phone and fax warm for days until you finally signed up on their program.

Not only that, but a BIG part of Mike and Rita's success was due to their non-stop mailing of sales letters and postcards. Rita spent many a night posting their prospecting ads on Internet sites and newsgroups.

More than once they got kicked off of AOL and other ISP's for being too aggressive when contacting prospects -- a new no-no in the online age.

I supposed all the work Mike and Rita did was worth it, but at what cost? They worked night and day for years. And even then, I don't think they were pulling in more than a few thousand dollars a month.

Now let's fast forward to today. Mark and Sandra are the talk of the neighborhood. They live in a big expensive house and drive a luxury car. Most people can't figure out how Mark and Sandra afford it. They're seen at home all day and go on lengthy vacations five or six times a year.

That part makes me smile, because I KNOW what Mark and Sandra do. They're working in direct sales and MLM from home. Only there is a key difference in what they're doing from what Mike and Rita were doing a few years ago.

Mark and Sandra use completely automated online systems to find huge numbers of leads, then filter through the leads to find only the best. Only then do Mark and Sandra start talking to their leads.

You see, Mark and Sandra don't spend their days prospecting. They let the technology do all that prospecting and cold calling for them. The only time Mark and Sandra talk on the phone or answer an email is when a very hot prospect calls them to place an order.

And here's the good part: Because the technology takes so much of the work out of direct sales, Mark and Sandra are able to work several very successful networking businesses. Rather than earning a few thousand dollars a month, they're bringing in TENS OF THOUSANDS.

Plus, with all that automation (and help from their upline organization) Mark and Sandra are able to take off and travel the world just about anytime they like.

Now that's progress!

Totally Country, Vol. 6

Totally Country, Vol. 6
Customer Review: Just barely made it

I've made a dedication to myself to collect each and every single totally country album. It was vol. 3 that got me started. All the beforeward and afterward records seemed pretty good. But this once was purchased by me by the skin of its teeth. Where's Rascle Flatts? Where's Eric Church? Where's Trent Tomilson?

The only songs to me that really made me think about buying it would have to be "8th of November" from Big & Rich, "Mountains" from Lonestar, and "Last Day of My Life" from Phil Vassar. The rest of the songs were either horrible or not very good.

Seriously, "Don't Forget to Remember Me" from Carrie Underwood is all played out! I mean, back when it was on the charts, that damn songs was coming on the radio all the time! If they could have put "Jesus Take the Wheel" on there instead then I would have been happy.

Faith Hill "Sunshine and Summertime" is exactly the same way. If she could put a little less effort into making it bright and upbeat, then maybe it would be a decent song.

We all know Gary Allan felt his wife's suicide when he recorded the song "Life Ain't Always Beautiful". I mean seriously, if you hear the song a little too much, you'll go into a deep depression that will last years!

For the most part, these songs come on the radio too often. The other totally country albums included some monster hits along with other songs that never made it too far, which is a good mix. But most of this CD is just worn out radio tunes. It's not worth the 14.99 I had to pay for at Wal-mart, but the only reason I got it is because I wanted to have the entire set.

Customer Review: If you don't know which artists to buy...

... then buy this CD. I like country but I'm not country crazy. So I wanted to buy some music but had no idea about any of the artists' music except what I was hearing on the radio. This was a pretty good solution to my problem. You get the best of the country songs that they play on the radio instead of buying a particular artist's CD with only one song that you know. You really can't go wrong with these mix CDs.

Customer Review: Jim Rohn fan!

I always love the down to earth style of Jim Rohn. This is a great CD for any business! Love his version of the "Parable of the Sower". Definitely worth getting and listening to.

Jim Rohn is the master at taking proven concepts and philosophies and so eloquently weaving them in to practical applications in a way that you don't know where the time went when you get to the end. This CD is a must for anyone, at any level, in the industry or considering networking. You will be inspired while getting a clearer vision of the beauty and power of network marketing, done right. I give a copy to everyone we mentor and they all love and are empowered by Jim Rohn's masterful job.

Psyclone Chill Station for Nintendo Wii

Psyclone Chill Station for Nintendo Wii
Customer Review: Waste of money

Bought this on 12/30/07 for my Wii. Thought it would be a good buy cause it has a fan that cools the unit and storage for the remotes. Needless to say, plugged it in and started playing my Wii. Two hours later smelled plastic burning. Not a good deal. Will be returning it. The light that shows that the fan is blowing, blew out. DO NOT BUY!!!
